By IANS
Sunday December 2, 10:20 AM
Yangon, Dec 2 (Xinhua) A first ever film festival of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) will be held in Myanmar's biggest city of Yangon next week to mark the association's 40th anniversary, media reports said Sunday.
Except Brunei, Laos and Cambodia, all other member countries are to take part in the film festival to be held at the Tamada Cinema from Dec 6-9, according to the report.
Films such as 'Mystery of Snow' (Myanmar), 'The Tin Mine' (Thailand), 'Cinta' (Malaysia), 'Magnifico' (Philippines), 'Denias' (Indonesia) and 'The Story of Pao' (Vietnam) will be screened during the four-day festival.
The Asean comprise Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Meanwhile, a five-day South Korean film festival is already in progress at the same cinema here since Nov 30 and will last till Dec 4, in which four Korean films - 'Taegukgi', 'Welcome to Donfmakgol', 'The Host' and 'The Way Home' are being screened.
Earlier in June this year, a European film festival was organised in Yangon to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the EU. Films from Italy, England, Germany and France were screened.
In recent years, the domestic audiences in Myanmar have been getting the opportunity to enjoy foreign films through these festivals.
Countries such as China, Japan and South Korea have already organised film festivals in Myanmar in the recent past, through their cultural exchange programmes.
