Dambulla loses D/N ODI due to neglect

Dambulla loses D/N ODI due to neglect

The Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium which was to host the first two of the five match ODI series against India next week will host a single match due to the existing technical issues with floodlights, sources close to Sri Lanka Cricket said.
The venue which was built within a record 167 days has largely been overlooked over the years by the cricket administrations and sources said at least 12 lights need to be replaced if Sri Lanka wants to have day-night matches at the picturesque venue.
The venue was built in 2000 to provide Sri Lanka a chance to host one-day matches throughout the year as it is located in the central dry zone.
The Sri Lanka cricket authorities erected permanent floodlights at the venue in 2003 in time for the England tour of Sri Lanka with an estimated cost of US$ 250,000 with a view to increase the value of television rights.
Sources said that if the pervious SLC regimes had paid more attention to the venue, Dambulla would have hosted at least two day night matches during the Indian tour which would have not only given SLC a hefty financial benefit but benefited the people around the area.
“It has been neglected continuously and we are now paying the price for it,” an official who wished to remain anonymous said.
“We need to spend another three to four lakhs to replace those bulbs. If we did that the SLC would get an increased sum for television rights,” he added.
Dambulla, which was due to hold the first two matches of the five-match one-day series, will now host only the opening game on January 28.
The remaining four matches and a Twenty20 international will be played in Colombo during the brief tour, which ends on February 10.
The first and fifth one-dayers will be day games, while the other matches will be played under lights.

The New 50-50 One Day rules, Going To Change By Today Onwards..

Today is the 1st of October. From today onwards the ICC is going to introduce some new regulations for one day format of cricket. Those rules are validated for the series Sri Lanka-England. Those are the new rules,

• There’ll be a free hit after if it’s a front-foot No-Ball.

• After the 1st power play, that means during second and third power plays, an additional fielder will be permitted outside the fielding , inner circle.

• If there is a problem, like rain , number of overs have to be reduced. If so number of overs for each power play will be reduced accordingly.

• Minimum distance for boundaries was 140 yards . It’ll change to 150 yards.
The minimum on one side is of 65 yards , straight boundaries 70 yards, previously was 60 yards.

• If one side refused to play the mach for any reason, The match referee has the right to choose the winning team.

• If a new batman not ready to play after 2 minutes with a wicket, umpires can impose Time-Wasting penalties for him.

• A new ball can be used in 35th over onwards, but the decider is the leader of the team, who lost the toss.

( I appreciate your replay if there is any other regulations, I’ve forgotten to mention)

Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh 1st ODI - Fernando spell floors Bangladesh

Fernando spell floors Bangladesh

First one-day international, Colombo: Sri Lanka 234-6 (50 overs) bt Bangladesh 164 (40.3 overs) by 70 runs
Scorecard
Dilhara Fernando celebrates one of his four wickets in Colombo

Fernando wreaked havoc to leave Bangladesh reeling on 56-5
Dilhara Fernando put in a superb spell of bowling as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 70 runs in the first one-dayer.

The hosts were struggling in Colombo on 67-3 but managed 234-6 thanks to Upul Tharanga (57) and Chamara Silva (65).

Then Fernando (4-24) ripped through the Tigers' top order after Shahriar Nafees (33) had got them off to a solid start.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Farhad Reza and Abdur Razzak all made 28 but Bangladesh were bowled out for 164 in the 41st over to go 1-0 down in the three-match series.

They next meet in the second one-day international in Colombo on Monday.

606: DEBATE
Can Bangladesh hit back in the second ODI?

Sir Lanka won comfortably enough, but it was a far from straightforward start as Sanath Jayasuriya (21, Kumar Sangakkara (16) and Mahela Jayawardene (2) all fell cheaply.

But solid strokes from Silva and Tharanga, claiming their seventh and ninth ODI half-centuries respectively, led Sri Lanka to respectability.

Mashrafe Mortaza and Syed Rasel enjoyed the best of the Bangladesh bowling, but their two wickets apiece could not be matched by their costly team-mates.

Chasing 235 runs to win, Bangladesh got off to a promising start with openers Tamim Iqbal and Nafees striking up a strong partnership.

However, that all fell apart within the space of four overs as they went from 45-0 to 56-5.

Fernando took four of the wickets as Iqbal (11), Nafees (33), Tushar Imran (0), Shakib Al Hasan (0) and Mohammad Ashraful (4) all fell within quick succession before Sri Lanka wrapped up the win.
